Is Life fair? bad guys becomes governor. good guys are being struck by lightening. being good doesnt protect anyone from being struck down.
giving without expecting something return happens most often when we feel abundant. feeling we have plenty of love, time, money, wisdom, chicken soup, or zucchinis makes giving easy. feeling we have scarce sources, we may be afraid to give, not trusting that there will be ever enough. we come to feel as though our survival depends on holding on or being paid back. furthermore, when frightened, our giving, no matter how generous, there will be a hook attached. then we'll be forever fishing for payback, dividends, appreciation, and feel very disappointed when we end up empty-handed.(after all i did for you...)
i feel that in any relationship, if things are badly skewed in the give and take department, hais hurricanes and tornados are inevitable. however, storm cellars and lightening rods are advisable. some people *loves* to precise stupid scores and tally up who did what when, who have what when, who did the most, and who deserves the most. is there such a need? as a result they became more focused on balancing the books to the last penny droplet that they lose sight of the real value of relationship.
so simple as ever, just be good, fair and generous just because that's who you really are. expect no rewards from others or the universe. because we did it on our free will. though your generosity to others may or may not be returned, just think that your generousity to yourself and your own pleasure in giving are the only gifts you can count on. move through the world with trust rather than mistrust. in the past, i often mistrust my surrounding friends, but in the present my friends are the most trustable people other than my family members. always expect the best and be prepared for the worse. when you're being a good person, wear a white hat and carry a lightening rod! opps! hey folks i'm just kiddings! haha dun try that plz.
